UN’s Global Compact: A proof of quality for your company

Nowadays, consumers are increasingly aware of environmental protection and respect for human rights. As a result, a term has even appeared: we are now dealing with “responsible consumers”, whose wish is to turn to products that have a lower ecological impact and meet certain ethical criteria.

In order to build customer loyalty or encourage them to buy your products, you will need to prove your commitment in these areas. Certifications and adhesions to international agreements on ecology are often a guarantee of quality and thus provide you with a means of differentiating yourself from your competitors.

PCG member of the UN Global Compact - PCG Barcelona

The United Nations’ Global Compact is one such agreement. It consists of 10 principles that encompass the basic values of respect in the workplace and operate in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

The 10 principles of the UN Global Compact are:

 Human Rights

Principle 1: Businesses have to support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and

Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

 Labour

Principle 3: Businesses have to uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;

Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;

Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and

Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Ethical values: the 10 principles of the Global Compact - PCG Barcelona
Environmental values: the 10 principles of the Global Compact - PCG Barcelona

 Environment

Principle 7: Businesses have to support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;

Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and

Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

 Anti-Corruption

Principle 10: Businesses have to work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

In order to engage in this process, simply send a letter or e-mail to the UN administration in your country, expressing your interest in participating in this action. The document has to be signed by the company’s manager.

If you are already a member of the Global Compact, PCG can help you highlight your commitment. A board listing the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact, cardboard cubes, a banner or posters, all you have to do is choose the support that best suits your needs!
